It Gets Worse, BFI London Film festival,
With a gap in my schedule and a desire to do something about it, I discovered that the first three episodes of the queer comedy It Gets Worse would fit perfectly. And since it was described as a comedy, I based my decision on that and went.
Did I laugh?
I cried with laughter as we followed three former university best friends in their mid-twenties: Ethan (Leo Reich, who’s also the creator), Abi (Emily Fairn) and Sam (Olive Gray), through a few days of their chaotic lives.
The series is totally unhinged. Totally.
And the first episode started with an unexpected appearance by Andrew Scott (a very, very unexpected appearance according to me…).
The trio has very chaotic lives, full of stupid decisions, crazy situations: involving a bad boss (Lena Dunham), strange co-workers, a boring boyfriend and a lot of fun.
And a lot of sex. Like, a lot, lot.
I would describe it as the possible (bastard) love child of Queer as Folk, Heated Rivalry and Sex Education.
It’s already on Britain’s Channel 4, will be on Paramount+ with Showtime this autumn in the USA, and on Crave in Canada.
No Swedish streaming service has bought the rights so far.
Yay for Sweden… not.
